We have found Befriender Ministry to be an exciting and valuable way to extend the care of St. Michael’s congregation to those persons going through transitions in their lives (loss of a loved one, new illness, divorce, etc). This is implemented through a training process using the manual and guidelines from the National BeFriender Ministry Organization in St. Paul, MN.
Henri Nouwen gives a beautiful example of who we strive to become:
The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion,
who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement,
who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing,
and face with us the reality of our powerlessness,
that is the friend who cares.
St. Michael’s Church has 16 individuals who have been trained to offer a tender and compassionate presence to those undergoing difficult times. It may be illness, bereavment, or any trying situation. Also, any Befriender Ministry member can take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. If you know of a need, contact any of the leaders listed below. All visits are confidential.
